CITY OF MEYCAUAYAN, Bulacan – Fresh from the holiday break, DepEd Region III Director May B. Eclar, PhD, CESO III, got a first-hand experience on the utilization of “Meycauayan Connect” in Ubihan Elementary School and Ubihan High School on January 5, 2021. The Regional Director’s visit aimed to affirm the effectiveness of the project launched last December 11, 2020 in Meycauayan National High School, where she was invited to witness.
Dr. Eclar, together with the Chief, Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD) Dr. Librada M. Rubio and Education Program Supervisor Dr. Rafael C. Rubio, were cordially welcomed by the Schools Division of City of Meycauayan officials headed by the Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Carolina S. Violeta, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Jerry Dimla- Cruz, Curriculum and Implementation Division Chief, Dr. Dominador Cabrera, Schools Governance and Operations Division Chief, Dr. Querubin E. Lopez and Education Program Supervisors namely, Dr. Edward C. Jimenez, Dr. Ramilo C. Cruz, Mrs. Ma. Leonora B. Cruz and Mrs. Vivian R. Dumalay and Information Technology Officer, Mr. Albert B. Matic.
The visiting team had positive feedback as they have observed how online classes are effectively carried out even on an island like Barangay Ubihan. They described the learning activities that transpired as engaging and the learners are all participative. There was an active interaction between teachers and learners throughout the duration of the lesson. They also witnessed the benefits of desktop computers given to teachers and the speed and stability of internet connection in the area. The group was also impressed by knowing that all schools were given heavy-duty printers that could reproduce a thousand copies of Activity Sheets in an hour. All these and more are clear manifestations that strong partnership between the Schools Division Office and City Government of Meycauayan has resulted in sustainable and long-term response to the dynamic needs of the education system. Furthermore, this action will be advantageous to all teachers and learners even after the pandemic.
During the conversation, the School Heads of Ubihan Elementary School and Ubihan High School, Mrs. Maria Gracia Victoria and Dr. Marilou S. Alcanar, respectively, expressed their gratitude for the project. It has brought transformation to their place and created “equality” among learners for everyone now could have access to multiple learning modalities.
The initial step of Meycauayan Connect to embrace changes and adapt to the current trends of computerization is not just consistent with the “new normal classroom setting” but it is also a big leap towards harmonization of SDO Meycauayan’s data management system. It will serve as a channel for seamless exchange of information and resources from one school and/or Unit of the Division Office to the other.
